Fallen Dad Remembered as Honorary Girl Scout, Blasé Vegas Teen Allegedly Told Cops "Out in 30 days, I’ll bet you”
The suspects in the hit and run killing of Las Vegas retiree Andreas Probst, remembered by his daughter as “an honorary member of girl scouts,” have been identified as 18-year-old Jesus Ayala and 16-year-old Jzamir Keyes.
Ayala was arrested within hours of the death of Andreas Probst, and is reported to have told the police that he would not be locked up for long.
“You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you,” Ayala, just recently 18, told the cops, according to the New York Post. “It’s just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist.”
Police had yet to inform Ayala of the extent of his actual charges; his initial arrest for an existing warrant and for obstructing a peace officer had been upgraded to what the Las Vegas Justice System calls “Open Murder”, KLAS reported.
Open Murder is a catch-all term that includes First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter, etc. The upgraded murder charges were announced after video of the incident shot by the perpetrators surfaced on social media. Murder has a minimum sentence of 25 years to life under Nevada State Law.
Police said Ayala and Keys, both of whom will be tried as adults, stole at least four cars that morning before allegedly hitting a 72-year-old man, leaving him with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Soon thereafter, they can be seen on video shot from inside the stolen car intentionally ramming into another car that was traveling on the same roadway.
