Mass Graves Found in Mexico

A private volunteer group looking for missing people in Jalisco, Mexico, found the illicit crematorium on a ranch in Teuchitlán, which is about 90 miles east of Puerto Vallarta.
"We found the place because we had received several anonymous calls," Indira Navarro, a member of the search group nonprofit Guerreros Buscadores collective, told AFP.
"We found charred remains, remains of charred human bodies in graves."
Bones and bullet casings were found together at the burial site, which was reportedly also a training center for the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación, according to police.
"This is a very critical and serious issue," Mexican Attorney General Alejandro Gertz commented at a press conference.
On the same day, sixteen hours south of Jalisco in Oaxaca, the state prosecutor's office reported that a group of local police were being investigated for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of three people.
Those victims disappeared off the coast of Oaxaca along with a woman who was later found alive, according to the state prosecutor's office. The whereabouts of two other women and a man remain unknown.
In 2023, the last year for which reliable numbers are available, close to 30,000 people were reported missing in Mexico, a figure which includes both tourists and Mexican citizens, according to Statista.
