Brianna Kupfer, a 24-year-old UCLA graduate student studying architectural design, was working alone in the upscale Hancock Park furniture store Croft House when she was stabbed and slashed repeatedly by a mentally ill homeless man who entered the store on January 13, 2022.

Flowers placed at a memorial to Kupfer at the store where she was killed.

Brianna texted her supervisor to say there was someone in the store who was “giving her a bad vibe,” but her supervisor did not see the message for 10 minutes and Kupfer would be dead by the time he’d read it.

Brianna bled out on the floor of Croft House while her murderer fled out of the back door into an alley. Nothing was stolen from the store in which Kupfer, who worked as a design consultant, was found dead by a customer about 20 minutes later.
